Hong Kong Triathletes Lee Chi Wo and Tania Mak both win slots for the Triathlon event in the BEJING OLYMPICS.
 
Both of them raced today in the World Triathlon Championships, which was the last race in a 2 year qualification period. Also one other triathlete from Hong Kong Ho Kin Fun raced today in the u23 elite male Championship. Heavy rain, cold winds and with extremely cold water temperatures of 11-12oc added made the World Championships one of the toughest events of the year.
 
All these triathletes completed over a 2 loop 1500m sea swim, followed by  a 8-lap bike course, which included  a 600m steep climb and some  technical riding on sharps bend down hill. This was followed by a 4 loop (2.5k) run course.
 
Tania Mak from Hong Kong finished 18 this morning in the female U23 event.  She had a strong swim and came out of the water in 22:38 with six other triathletes. They worked hard together on the bike and after 25k they caught the 2nd pack.
She had a solid run and was only passed by 2 triathletes in the last 2k of the run. Tania finished within 8% of the winner Ryif Daniels and scored approx. 20 points


Ho Kin Fun’s one was of 64 U23 triathletes competing in the male event. After both 1000m and 1500m of the swim he was just holding onto 50th position. He came out of the water around 18:48 but had a slow transition because he couldnt feel his fingers or toes. He jumped on the bike with a pack of 8 triathletes who after 8k joined the pack infront to become the 3rd pack. He stayed with this pack throughout the 40k cycle. He ran 39:40 and finished in a personal best position of 46.
 
Daniel swam well for 1000m and was in the top 30 triathletes but faded during the final 500m and dropped back to 55 position. He missed the first pack by 10 seconds and rode for 40k with 12 triathletes in the 2nd pack. They lost time each lap to Pack 1 who had 40 tr

Daniel paced the first 1k of the run carefully by not pushing too hard but by 3 k he started to pick up his pace. He had an average run and finished in  53 rd position in 1:55:23
