Press Release from
2008 ITU / ASTC ASIAN TRIATHLON CHAMPIONSHIPS
第17屆廣州三項鐵人錦標賽 – 新聞稿
May 3rd
Both Tania Mak and Shatnaya Yekaterina (main competitor from KAZ for qualifying to Olympic) finished outside 8% of the winners time on the 2nd day of the Asian Triathlon Championships, so neither of them scored points in the Asian Ranking.  Tania remains 176 points ahead for the new flag position in the Olympic qualification with 2 races to go.

Tania had a personal best swim when she came out of the water with the 2nd pack. Unfortunately, she was dropped by this pack on the bike and she rode on her own until she was caught on at 14k by Shatnaya who had come out of the water 1 minute 17 seconds behind Tania. They rode together for the remaining 25k cycle, with H. Long of Macau.

Ueda the overall winner from Japan ran strongly in a time of 36:04 but Shatnaya who finished 15th and Tania who finish 17th could only run 42:18 and 44:10 respectively, so they could not finish within 8% of the winner.
